Am I Suffering From Depression?
We all feel sad or "blue" at different times of our lives but if this sadness lasts for two week or more and other symptoms are present such as those listed below, it's time to seek help.
-Loss of pleasure or interest doing things that normally give me pleasure
-Change in eating or sleeping habits
-Feeling sad most of the day
-Everything seems to take an extra amount of effort
One of the most effective "cures" for depression is changing our negative thinking patterns. Sometimes journaling or writing down our thoughts and feelings help us to get outside of ourselves and gain perspective. Physical activity and helathy eating are also contributors to a better mood. Sometimes though, we need to talk it out. This is where therapy can help. If you have suffered from depression for many months or years, finding a good therapist can make all the difference. In some cases, medication is needed and your therapist can let you know if you are a candidate for an anti-depressant and will refer you to a psychiatrist for evaluation.
Whatever your situation, there is help out there for you . . .
As always, in case of a life threatening emergency or if you are planning to harm yourself, please call 911.
